Prepare to apply for admission

Consider these steps before you apply to UVic:

Connect with an academic referee
Connect with academic referees who can speak to your ability to undertake advanced studies and who are willing to provide the assessment reports required as part of the application process. For example, a referee might be a current or former professor or employer.

It is important that you ask permission before using their names. Be sure to provide them with as much information as possible about the application you are submitting.

Transcripts
Request transcripts from all of the post-secondary institutions you have attended.

Apply for a study permit (if applicable)
If you are not a Canadian citizen or a permanent resident of Canada, you generally require a study permit and an offer of admission if you plan to study at a Canadian university for longer than six months.

To apply for a permit, please contact your nearest Canadian embassy, high commission or consulate. For more information on study permits, temporary resident visas and work permit options, visit the Citizenship and Immigration Canada website.

Demonstrate English proficiency
Plan to demonstrate your English proficiency; tests such as the TOEFL, IELTS or MELAB may be required.

Identify your specific program requirements (e.g. GRE/GMAT; a portfolio; a statement of your research interests).

Confirm with your academic unit whether you must identify an available academic supervisor before coming to UVic.
