Research Information

Research Description

My research highlights the value of nature in urban areas. It involves biophysical inventories of natural areas in cities and approaches to improving their health through connectivity, ecological memory, invasives removal and environmental stewardship.

Research Keywords

Community Interaction

Community Projects

My research, that of my graduate students and students of the Restoration of Natural Systems Program that I supervise involves urban biodiversity, especially patch sizes, connectivity, symbiotic relationships and invasive species. We have done research at Swan Lake, Coquitz Creek, Douglas Creek, the University of Victoria campus and other sites in the Capital Regional District.

Community Collaborations

We have done some research with the Land Conservancy, the Garry Oak Restoration Program, the Friends of Mount Douglas Park Society and many other local groups as part of projects in the Restoration of Natural Systems Program.
