Student experiences

Jolly Nyeko - School of Child and Youth Care

Dr. Jolly Nyeko graduated with her PhD in the School of Child and Youth Care in June 2012, but she has worked for over three decades to provide programming for, and inspiration to, countless yound people in her native Uganda. In 1995 she founded Action for Children, a non-profit group that cares for 20,000 children and families vulnerable to HIV/AIDS and poverty across the country but still felt she could use more training. Nyeko joined the PhD program in the School of Child and Youth Care in 2006 under the supervision of Dr. Alan Pence, who she met in 1997 at an early childhood development summer school in Uganda.

Read more about her story in the June 2012 issue of The Ring.
