International applicant info
If you have previously graduated from a post-secondary program in another country from around the world (including the United States), then you are considered an international applicant.
Some extra things you should know
In addition to the standard application process, general admission requirements, language proficiency and individual program requirements and deadlines, international students should review the following information:
Application deadlines
Although application deadlines are set by the individual departments, if you are an international applicant, it is advised that you apply well in advance of the deadline for your entry point to allow time for processing and to apply for a visa. The suggested timelines are as follows:
- September entry point - apply by December 15
- January entry point - apply by April 15
- May entry point - apply by October 15
Individual departments may have earlier deadlines, make sure to review your program information. For international applications received after these dates, it may not be possible to process them in time for the desired entry point or to obtain a student visa or study permit.
Study permits
If you are an international applicant, you must contact the nearest Canadian Embassy to you regarding the details and application process for a study permit. Study permit application procedures can take up to six months or more in some countries, so it is essential that you apply for admission well before the posted deadlines for your entry point.
For further information about being an international student at UVic, contact International and Exchange Student Services.
Minimums from other countries
These are the minimum standards required by the Faculty of Graduate Studies for admission to a master's degree program. Individual programs may have higher requirements; please review the program information for more details. For information on countries not listed here, please contact the Graduate Admissions and Records Office.
