2. Apply for admission

Applying to UVic is easy. Just follow the steps below.

How to apply for admission to Graduate Studies

  1. 1Before proceeding to submit an online application to UVic, please ensure you have followed all the steps on what to do before you apply, including how to determine your program requirements and deadlines, as well as how to submit documents. An initial evaluation of your file can be completed based on unofficial documents.
  2. 2Complete the online application. Fill out the application including information for all post-secondary institutions at which you registered for courses.
    • Failure to disclose previous studies may result in your admission and registration being cancelled.
  3. 3Pay the application fee within your application - you must pay online with a credit card.
  4. 4Ask each of your referees to complete a confidential assessment report and send as a PDF by email to gradrefs@uvic.ca or return to you in a sealed envelope signed across the back seal.
    • Do not open these envelopes or the reports will be considered unofficial.
  5. 5To expedite the evaluation process, please provide unofficial copies of transcripts in your document package until your official documents are available. If you have already received your degree and it is indicated on your transcripts, request an official copy of your transcripts in sealed envelopes from each institution you have attended. The envelopes must be sealed and stamped with the issuing institution's seal across the back.
  6. 6Prepare your documents as a single package to submit to Graduate Admissions and Records either in digital form (PDF) to graddocs@uvic.ca or by mail. Please choose only one of these methods of submission or delays may occur in processing your file. Sending your documents (including unofficial documents) digitally will speed up the processing of your file.
  7. Your name should be included with your document package. Without this information, delays will occur. Your documents should be sent as a single complete package, including:
    1. Two (2) confidential assessment reports in sealed and endorsed envelopes from two referees who can provide a report on your academic ability and qualifications. These reports may be sent directly by your assessor as PDFs to gradrefs@uvic.ca.
    2. Transcripts from all post-secondary institutions you have attended. Unofficial transcript can be submitted to expedite the processing of your file. If you are submitting your official transcripts, they must be in sealed and endorsed envelopes.
    3. Proof of English language proficiency in the form of a TOEFL, IELTS or MELAB test (if required).
    4. Any additional requested documents for your department, (i.e., letter of intent, GRE or GMAT, CV or resume; see program requirements).

Make sure you apply early. As the deadline for application to a program approaches, the processing times slow due to increased application volume. Early application will also allow you to be eligible for UVic fellowships and awards.

  8. After applying, please ensure you follow the steps for submitting your document package. Failure to follow these steps may result in processing delays.

If you have any trouble with the online application process, please contact Graduate Admissions and Records directly at 250-472-4657.
