The award recognizes exceptional achievements and contributions by teacher-scholars across Canada.

Dr. A.R. “Elango” Elangovan, professor and director of international programs with the Gustavson School of Business, is among 10 Canadian scholars honoured with a 2012 3M National Teaching Fellowship, and the ninth UVic scholar to receive this honour since its inception.

As part of an internal assessment of the Jan. 7-8 privacy breach at UVic, law professor Jamie Cassels has been asked to investigate the circumstances around the incident to determine what lessons can be learned and to recommend steps the university should take to ensure the security of personal information in the future. To assist his assessment, Cassels has been seeking input from the university community. The deadline for submissions is Feb. 29. For further details, see the “Privacy and information security review” section of the university's privacy breach website. Cassels' assessment is a component of the broader review being conducted by former BC Privacy Commissioner David Flaherty.

Mike Hulme, professor of climate change at the University of East Anglia (UEA) School of Environmental Sciences and founding director of the Tyndall Centre for Climate Change Research from 2000 to 2007 will be giving a free public lecture in Vancouver on Wednesday, Feb. 15.

The appointment of UVic’s School of Public Administration professor Dr. Budd Hall to the UNESCO Chair of Community-Based Research and Social Responsibility in Higher Education increases UVic’s opportunities for global research partnerships.
