UVic welcomes international students

More than 1600 international students from 100 different countries choose UVic each year. Maybe it's the strength of the Canadian education system, maybe it's the safe environment in Victoria, BC, or maybe it's the fact we're the highest rated comprehensive university in Canada. Whatever the reason, we invite you to consider us as your university of choice. We welcome you to the perfect place to live and learn.

About UVic

Established in 1963, UVic is rated the top comprehensive university in Canada, according to annual Macleans Magazine rankings.

With over 40 program areas, diverse athletic, social and cultural opportunities, and a co-operative education program that encourages students to gain real-world experience to complement their academic learning, UVic is home to more than 19,000 students from around the world.

UVic stands out for its approach to learning, tying it directly to real-life work through one of the largest co-operative education programs in Canada. Co-op gives you an opportunity to "test drive" a career while completing your academic program, gain valuable work experience, and develop contacts within the industry.

The university is located a 20-minute drive from downtown Victoria, BC, and within walking distance of the Pacific Ocean. The campus is situated on acres of traditional Coast Salish and Straits Salish land.

UVic in your country

UVic recruiters travel all over the world to provide information about studying at the university. Check their travel schedule to see if a recruiter will be visiting your area.

Financial information

International student fees are different than domestic student fees. UVic offers many resources to assist international students as they pursue their degree:

Services

UVic has a strong commitment to its international student community. We have a wide variety of services to make our international students' experience as positive as possible. For an overview, please see this resources booklet.

International students are encouraged to contact International Student Services, which strives to make each student's stay at UVic as rewarding as possible. They provide pre-arrival support, orientation on arrival and ongoing assistance after international students have arrived for their studies at UVic.

If you are looking to improve your English language skills, we strongly encourage you to visit the English Language Centre.

Once you're on campus, visit the International Student Services to connect with the UVic Global Community, or to meet with an international student advisor. Advisors can answer your questions about things like health insurance and Canadian immigration regulations, and can provide advice on academic resources available to you.

There are many opportunities to connect with other students on campus. Student clubs like the Association of International and Canadian Students (AICS) and the International Friendship Group hold events year-round and all students are welcome to participate.
