Programs & courses

We promote individualized professional development through small, intensive programs. Our programs balance theory, practical knowledge, and research, and our academic supervisors provide students with regular mentoring and support. Elective options allow students to customize programs to fulfill their research and career goals.

Students can complement their studies with co-operative education work terms, research apprenticeships, and teaching apprenticeships. As a result, our students have an excellent record of job attainment following graduation.

Distance and mixed
delivery programs

Delivery methodsThe EPLS department currently offers community-based MEd programs in Counselling to cohorts of professionals in education and other fields. Delivery formats and program lengths vary. There will be two summer sessions at the university, with some programs requiring three consecutive summers at the UVic. Delivery is mixed, blending face-to-face and online instruction, and facilitating internship work and project research. Students work on their projects in their home community over the winter months.

The Diploma in Special Education and the Professional Specialization Certificate in Special Education offer alternative options. Using a variety of course delivery methods, the diploma and certificate courses are designed and scheduled to be completed online and part-time, with only 2 weeks of on-campus instruction in the summer.

Weekend and
evening course options

We understand that balancing school and other responsibilities can be difficult, and that's why we're working on offering more weekend and evening course options. Visit the UVic timetable (also available through uSource) or search the Academic Calendar for more information.
