Community-based programs
The Educational Psychology and Leadership Studies Department currently offers community-based Masters degree programs in Counselling to cohorts of professionals in education and other fields.
Programs can be initiated as a result of local needs communicated to the Faculty of Education by interested individuals. They provide a wonderful opportunity for learning and advancing careers in a supportive environment of colleagues with similar and diverse backgrounds.

- 3 Summers Project-based MA Counselling Program

July 2013 - August 2015
During each of the three summers (2013, 2014, 2015), participants will attend classes on campus from the beginning of July to mid-August. During the winter months (Sept 2013 - June 2014 and Sept 2014 - June 2015), participants will work on their Internships (extended practicum), projects, and prepare for summer courses with readings and pre-course assignments.

Next Proposed Intake: May 2014 - April 2016
This program will commence in May, 2014 and finish in April, 2016. During each of two summers (2014, 2015), participants will attend classes on campus (UVic) from the beginning of July to mid-August. During the rest of the program participants will attend classes on weekends up in Parksville (approximately 1 weekend per month), work on their Internships in their hometown (extended practicum), projects, and prepare for summer courses with readings and pre-course assignments.

- Aboriginal Communities Project-based MA Counselling program

New! ACCP2 from January 2014 - December 2016
We are pleased to offer a second cohort of the Aboriginal Communities Counselling Program (project-based MA) which is Indigenous-centred and community-engaged. Seven Indigenous values and principles that were identified and developed collaboratively with Aboriginal educators and communities inform all aspects of the program: 1) the Indigenous paradigm, 2) the Sacred and Spiritual dimension, 3) the Ancestral dimension, 4) Stories, ceremony, culture, language and communal healing, 5) the Earth and our relatives, 6) the Circle, and 7) the Vocation and practice of helping. Delivery method
We anticipate offering a new community-based counselling program every summer, starting either in May (Mid-Island) OR July (3 Summers).This is subject to enrollment. If you wish to receive an email when it is time to apply to either program, email Ione Wagner and ask to be added to the interest list. Please do not apply before receiving the email. The application deadline will be provided at that time. Delivery formats and program lengths vary:
A) Mid-Island: The Mid-Island program requires two summers at UVic and weekend courses, once a month in Parksville during the winter.
B) 3 Summers: The 3 Summers program requires three consecutive summers on campus at the university.
*Note: In both cases, students will work on their internships and projects in their home community over the winter months.
