Professional Specialization Certificate in Special Education
This is a professional program for educators who wish to enhance their ability to accommodate every young person with a specialized learning need within their classroom every day.
Diploma in Special Education
Our diploma program features coursework in the advanced intervention of developmental disabilities, behaviour problems, assistive technologies, inclusive education and effective consultation skills. Applicants to the Diploma progam must first complete the Certificate program.
Graduate Certifcate in Learning & Teaching in Higher Education
This is a dynamic certificate program that focuses on the pedagogical knowledge and practical skills required to teach effectively in higher education. LATHE combines knowledge and practice about teaching and learning across the disciplines to create a future professoriate fluent in the foundational principles of post-secondary instruction. It will challenge participants to reflect on their practical teaching activities in a scholarly way within their disciplinary context.
Delivery methods
Using a variety of course delivery methods, the Special Education diploma and certificate courses are designed for working professionals are and scheduled to be completed online and part-time. All of the courses in the Certificate and Diploma programs (with the exception of one course that requires approximately three weeks of on-campus instruction in the summer) are offered online.
Choosing the program that's right for you
In addition to the Certificate and Diploma programs in Special Education, the EPLS department also offers graduate programs in Educational Psychology with a focus on Special Education. Students who wish to pursue a graduate degree in Special Education following the completion of the Certificate or Diploma may, subject to approval, apply three units of their coursework towards their MEd or MA degree.
