The Faculty of Education offers digital studios with computer workstations and equipment supporting a broad range of popular and specialized software.

Most studios are bookable and available for drop-in use when not booked. Faculty of Education students and students taking education courses also have access outside of regular hours.

Our studios

MacLaurin D211 is a 31-station digital studio on the second floor of the MacLaurin in the causeway between the A and D wings. It's available for course instruction and student drop-in.

All stations are dual-boot to Windows and Mac OS. In addition to printing and scanning services, this studio houses a wide screen interactive whiteboard (SMARTboard).

  • 30 student + 1 instructor stations.
  • 27" iMacs (2013), Intel Core i7, 16 GB RAM.
  • Dual-boot to Mac OS 10.10.6 or Windows 7.
  • Full list of software. (See "Software".)
  • Specialty software currently installed: n/a.
  • Printers: Black & White and Colour. Stations are setup to print to MacD211, MacD282, and Curriculum Library printers.
  • Projector: Sharp XG-C55X ceiling-mounted.
  • SMARTBoard 600i.
  • Scanner: 17x11 inch large format

MacLaurin D282 is a 31-station digital studio on the second floor of the MacLaurin in the D wing. It's available for course instruction and student drop-in.

All stations are dual-boot to Windows and Mac OS. The room has both printing and scanning services.

  • 30 student + 1 instructor stations.
  • 21.5" iMacs (2011), Intel Core Duo, 4 Gb RAM.
  • Dual-boot to Mac OS 10.11 or Windows 7.
  • Printers: N-up (black and white but handles PDF files better) in lab. Stations are setup to print to MacD211, MacD282 and Curriculum Library printers.
  • Projector: NEC NP3250W ceiling-mounted.
  • Whiteboards
  • Scanner: Epson 4990

MacLaurin A323 is an 10-station digital studio on the third floor of the MacLaurin A-wing for drop-in, small group and long-term project work.

All stations are dual-boot to either Windows or Mac OS. The room is not bookable but used on a first come, first served basis.

This drop-in/project room is accessible only with an activated OneCard even during regular office hours.  Drop by MacD209 to activate your OneCard for the Education Labs.

  • 10 student stations.
  • Mix of 20" (2009) Intel Core 2 Duo, 4 Gb RAM and 27" iMacs (2011), Intel Core Duo, 4 Gb RAM.
  • Dual-boot to either Mac OS 10.11 or Windows 7.
  • Analog-to-digital audio recording/conversion station to digitize tape and live audio.
  • Analog-to-digital video conversion station.
  • Printers: none but stations are setup to print to MacD211, MacD282 and Curriculum Library printers.
  • Excellent space for small-group and long-term projects. Contact us for more information on setting up for special projects.
  • This drop-in/project room is accessible with an Education swipe card 24 hrs a day, 7 days a week.

Mckinnon 070 is a 17-station digital studio on the ground floor (by the squash court) of the Mckinnon building.

It's available for course instruction and student drop-in. All stations are dual-boot to Windows and Mac OS. This studio offers specialized software for sports and performance analysis.

  • 16 student + 1 presentation stations.
  • 27" iMacs (2013), i7 CPU, 2 Gb video, SSD hard drive, 16 Gb RAM.
  • Dual-boot to Mac OS 10.11 or Windows 7.
  • Specialty software: DartFish Video Analysis.
  • Projectors: 2 - SMARTBoard 800 with built-in ultra-short throw projector; widescreen VDP attached to presentation station with RCA hookups for gaming equipment.
  • Not available for drop-in use except for ccourse/lab organized times. Contact your instructor.

The Faculty of Education supports 4 mobile lab carts (2 Windows and 2 Mac carts) each with 16 laptops.

The carts come fully loaded with our digital studio software and there are a wide variety of available peripherals for loan including scanners, headsets, digital cameras, digital video cameras, extra wireless nodes, and a printer.
