Dr. Ralf St. Clair, Dean of the Faculty of Education.

Welcome to the Faculty of Education at the University of Victoria. We are proud to offer programs in a field of study that contributes a great deal to our country and the wider world. The University of Victoria has its roots in the Victoria Normal School over 100 years ago, and this is the institution that evolved into the Faculty. Nowadays we do much more than teacher preparation.

We are honoured to work alongside Indigenous Nations to support language revitalization and to prepare teachers to work in their communities. We are pleased to ready people for work in health settings through kinesiology and recreational health programs. We offer many graduate programs across a range of disciplines, such as counseling, coaching, and curriculum development. And we still prepare teacher candidates to work in BC schools.

None of this would be possible without the support we receive from so many different communities. We greatly appreciate the time, energy, and good will that is dedicated to our work by alumni, Indigenous communities, teacher mentors, supervisors, administrative and teaching staff, students, and our local and international partners.

One of the most striking qualities of our faculty is its ability to have an impact far beyond our size. People connected with our community are making a difference in Canada, Tanzania, China, India, the UK, and many other places around the world. We hope that we have a chance to work with you as you find your own way to make an impact!
