Building partnerships between tutors and students is a key component to CORE

CORE Mobile, a program run by the Faculty of Education’s Centre for Outreach Education (CORE) is currently accepting applications for enthusiastic and dedicated tutors to work after school with students in the Songhees Nation.

 What you get:

  • Experience working with aboriginal students in individualized and small group settings
  • An opportunity to develop and practice teaching skills while receiving ongoing feedback and suggestions
  • Important community service experience supporting local children
  • An honorarium of $800 per term (Two payments of $400)

What we need from you:

  • To be available to tutor 2 x a week (3:00-5:00pm Monday- Thursday) 
  • To be able to travel to the Kwum Kwum Lelum Centre in the Songhees Wellness Centre for each scheduled tutoring session (honorarium covers travel costs)
  • To work with children from a range of grades in a drop-in setting to provide additional instruction, educational games, as well as homework help
  • A love of teaching and an interest in supporting students in the community
  • A willingness to continually develop as a teacher
  • Experience working with children/ youth in school or community settings is an asset
