Royal Canadian Legion/UVic Community Clinic
~ The Royal Canadian Legion ~
A donation from the Royal Canadian Legion established a community counseling clinic in Victoria for Canadian veterans and service men and women. In partnership with the University’s Department of Educational Psychology and Leadership Studies, the generous donation is a direct effort by Legionnaires to help the younger generation of service men and women cope with the stresses and traumas endured in service as peacekeepers.
Graduate students from the Department of Education now have the opportunity to gain valuable experience in practicum positions during the pilot project. Serving Vancouver Island and the Sunshine Coast, it is estimated that the clinic staff will likely have a membership of over 10,000. Located in James Bay, the clinic will be unique in that it will not only serve individual men and women of the military, but will also offer group counseling to female members, as well as services to their family members.
Thank you to the members of the Royal Canadian Legion for this wonderful gift to the community, from the University’s Department of Educational Psychology and Leadership Studies.
