When you’re on a student budget, a bit of financial support can sometimes make all the difference. This page lists some of the funding options available as you explore potential jobs.

The UVic Co-op Program offers funding options for students who take part in co-operative education.
Moving expenses
Moving expenses
If you’re a full-time co-op student at UVic, you can claim certain costs of your relocation for co-op work placements on your income tax. The job location must be more than 40 kilometres from Victoria. To claim these costs, complete a T1-M Claim for Moving Expenses Form from Revenue Canada.
Graham Branton Endowment Award
Graham Branton Endowment Award
This fund supports student placements—usually international ones in developing countries—that provide excellent learning opportunities but little remuneration.
To apply, review the guidelines and download the application form or complete our online application form. Deadline is usually the third week of the third month of the term before placement.
Service Learning Internship Program
Service Learning Internship Program
The Service Learning Internship Program (SLIP) was established in 2002 to support co-op positions in community-based organizations working collaboratively with UVic on joint research-related projects.
Funding supports the hiring of co-op students in work that provides an excellent learning opportunity for the student while supporting local community needs.
If you are interested in pursuing a work term with an organization who fits this description, you can find the application form online.
Deadlines
- November 1 for January placement
- March 1 for May placement
- July 1 for September placement
Thouvenelle Co-op Scholarship
Thouvenelle Co-op Scholarship
UVic Co-op awards the Thouvenelle scholarship to students in work terms related to community development or service learning. Eligibility is based on the nature of the work term, your grade-point average and financial need. No application is required—we’ll contact you if you are selected for this scholarship.
Abebooks International Co-op Award
Abebooks International Co-op Award
This $600 grant is awarded to a business or computer science co-op student embarking on an international work term in the spring term. To apply, download the criteria and application form. Deadline is generally the third Wednesday of November.

The UVic OIA provides many funding resources for students going abroad for study, research or study-related work, including volunteer placements.
- Student Awards and Financial Aid:
This office can help you look into funding options offered by UVic, including grants, prizes, scholarships and bursaries. They can also point you in the right direction to find external sources of financial aid.

Lists over 400,000 funding opportunities worth over $33 billion. Students at UVic can access this subscription service through any computer on campus.
- International Scholarships Database:
A database of grants, scholarships, loan programs and other resources to help you work and study abroad.
