Whether you're a brand-new student or preparing to graduate, this Co-op and Career compass can help you find programs, services and resources on campus for every stage of your career development. Choose your stage to explore what we offer!

Stage 1:
Discover your direction

At this career stage, you're just starting out. You'll start to gain an awareness of your personal interests, the opportunities available to you and the resources to help you meet your goals.

Services and resources

  • Visit Co-op and Career Info Day to learn about the co-op and work experience program (apply in second year) and the career resources we offer all students.
  • Find our booths during UVic's Weeks of Welcome to meet some of our staff and ask questions.
  • Résumania runs several times a year: Get instant cover letter and interview help at our booths around campus.
  • Meet with a career educator to start your career journey off on the right track.
  • Stop by one of our regular Résumé Labs or Ace Your Interview workshops in the library—see the schedule here
  • Check out our online resources, including our journey kit (career planning), competency kit (skill-building) and tool kit (résumés, interviewing and more).

Experience and opportunities

  • Visit the Co-op and Career Fair in the fall to meet employers in a variety of industries, ask questions and find potential opportunities.
  • Explore opportunities for volunteering—it's a great way to fill any experience gaps while giving back to causes you care about. Volunteer Victoria holds a volunteer fair on campus in the fall—check their website for event details!
  • Engineering and computer science students—visit the Hi-Tech Co-op and Career Fair in February to meet employers in the high-tech industry!
  • In March and April, check out Gear Into Summer, our online summer job expo. (Note: This link is closed the rest of the year.)
  • Log in to our Co-op and Career portal (just use your Netlink ID!) for tons of part-time, full-time, on-campus, casual, volunteer and tutoring opportunities in Victoria and beyond.

In this intermediate career development stage, you'll start to explore your career options, assess your competencies (skills, knowledge and attributes) and fill any competency gaps with relevant experience in your area of interest.

  • Meet with a career educator to chat about career exploration, developing your competencies in relevant areas, job search help and more.
  • Join one of our free online career programs—Horizons (career exploration) or Navigator (searching for work)—and follow along at your own pace.
  • Stop by one of our regular Résumé Labs or Ace Your Interview workshops in the library—see the schedule here.
  • Come to our "What can you do with your degree?" sessions in the spring to learn about potential careers in a variety of industries.
  • Check out our online resources, including our journey kit (career planning), competency kit (skill-building) and tool kit (résumés, interviewing and more).

  • Apply for our work experience program—a shorter, more flexible alternative to traditional co-op—anytime after second year.
