Biochemistry and Microbiology Co-op
Congratulations to Jenna Ries (biochemistry), a 2012 Student of the Year for the Association of Co-operative Education (BC–Yukon). Jenna has completed work terms with the National Research Council of Canada and the BC Cancer Agency Deeley Research Centre, where she investigated drug combinations for targeted therapy of ovarian cancer and co-authored two papers in peer-reviewed scientific journals. Put your learning in motion.
Through co-op, you'll alternate your academic terms with co-op terms working for biochemistry or microbiology employers. You’ll gain relevant, paid work experience, build competencies, and learn how to succeed after graduation. Wondering what co-op's like? Check out our student stories!
On a co-op work term, you could:
- monitor industrial fermentation processes
- test clinical, environmental, food and water samples for microbial or chemical contamination
- conduct original research using modern biochemistry, immunology, molecular biology, genomics and proteomics technology

Work Experience
Program
Biochemistry/Microbiology Work Experience Program
Not sure if co-op is right for you? As an earth and ocean sciences student, you can apply to the EOS Work Experience Program at any time during your degree and complete two paid work terms instead of four. You’ll receive the same benefits and support as a co-op student, and you can choose to transfer into the EOS Co-op Program later on (if it's still early enough in your studies).
Program requirements and the application process are the same as for co-op—please see the other tabs on this page.
