Student Employment Opportunities: IDC regularly hires graduate and undergraduate students for co-op work terms and part-time work study employment. IDC mostly hires students from the Faculty of Business (MBA and BCom), but also hires students from the Faculties of Science and Engineering for specific projects tied to our commercialization activities. Most IDC student positions are posted through Department Co-op Offices.
Work study positions: These positions are usually up to 340 hours of part-time employment for UVic students enrolled in at least 4.5 units. Work study positions typically begin in September/October and can continue as late as March. IDC selects candidates from across the UVic disciplines, and IDC work study projects are mostly directed at a single or specific project (such as writing, desktop publishing, computer programming, etc) and, usually, can be performed over flexible hours. IDC work study positions are posted at the work study job posting website.
Unsolicited Resumes: IDC are happy to receive your resume for opportunities at IDC. However, please note that they will be kept for only 30 days, after which time they will be discarded.

- All student positions in the SUB are unionized under the United Steelworkers of America with the exception of the theatre projectionists who are unionized under the International Alliance of Theatrical and Stage Employees. The only student positions in the SUB which are not unionized are Work Study and Summer Career Placement positions.
Rate of Pay: Varies from $10.58 an hour for a general worker position up to $13.62 an hour for a supervising position. (This includes 5% vacation pay)
Hiring Procedures:
- Collective agreement requires that all positions be posted within the SUB for one week. If they are not filled internally, external candidates are considered. Current job openings are posted at: http://www.uvss.uvic.ca/default.aspx?PageID=1027.
- Both Career Services and UVSS have application forms or you may dowload them in pdf format at the UVSS website above (requires legal paper). Students should submit them along with a current resume to the SUB Info Booth or the SUB General Office B128.
- Most hiring occurs in August, September and early January but positions are posted all year long when they become available.
- Employ approximately 160 students during the winter session.
- 30 Full-time positions are open to non-students and students alike (when vacancies occur).
- Part-time student positions are only available to undergraduate students "in good standing".
UVic Work Study Program
The Work Study Program is designed to provide part-time on-campus work experience for students requiring financial assistance. UVic students who demonstrate financial need will be eligible to participate in the Work Study Program.
UVic's Work Study program is now funded solely by UVic, so you no longer need to apply for and receive student loans to qualify for the program.
You must be pre-approved for the Work Study Program by UVic's Student Awards & Financial Aid Department (located on the second floor of the University Centre) before applying for any Work Study positions. Please check the Student Awards & Financial Aid website for application procedures and dates. All Work Study jobs must be completed no later than the end of April each year.
