Need some career guidance? Want some feedback on your résumé? Drop in for a free 15-minute coaching session with a career educator, or contact a career educator directly to discuss your question in more depth.

Our career educators can help you:

  • search for work
  • write résumés, CVs and cover letters (check out our weekly résumé lab below)
  • practice your interview skills
  • learn how to network
  • explore your career options
  • understand labour market information
  • complete graduate school applications
  • take personality assessments (Myers-Briggs Type Indicator and Strong Interest Inventory) *Note: We offer these to staff and alumni only—current students can take personality assessments at UVic Counselling Services.

Drop-in sessions

Need help finding work, or unsure about your future career? Drop in to your Career Services office for a 15-minute session with a career educator. We’ll answer your questions and point you to helpful resources. If you’d like more time, let us know and we we can book you a longer appointment.

Drop-ins on scheduled on a first-come, first-served basis. If you’d like help with your job search, check out our job search preparation page before you stop by.

Need help fine tuning your resume?  Come to a Résumé Lab for a brief tutorial followed by personal help from a Career Educator or Student Career Ambassador.  Bring your résumés and cover letters (hard copies or laptop) to the lab so that you can get some work done with help from us.  You’ll walk away with improved résumés and cover letters!

Drop-in times and locations

  • Business students: Stop by BEC 132 for drop-in times, or call 250-721-6087.
  • Engineering students: Stop by ECS 210 on Mondays (1 to 4 pm) or Thursdays (9 am to 12 pm).
  • All other students: Drop-ins are held at two different locations. Generally, mornings are held in the Career Services office, (CSR 110—beside the bookstore), and afternoons in the the Library Learning Commons (LLC), room 135G.

Résumé lab times and location

  • Résumé labs take place every Thursday from 10 am - 12 pm in Room 129 in the McPherson Library (10 - 10:30 am brief tutorial on principles of effective résumés and cover letters, 10:30 am - 12 pm supported working session). You can register for these Résumé Labs in the Event portion of our Career Portal.
  • On the first Thursday of each month additional Résumé Lab support will be provided by staff from the Writing Centre for students who would like more help with grammar and composition.

Career ambassadors résumé help

Our career ambassadors are available to help you with your résumé and cover letter whenever you need it! If you are just getting started, or simply would like someone to look it over and give you some feedback, simply email your résumé and any questions to resume@uvic.ca and we will be able to help you out!

If we can’t cover everything in your drop-in session, you can book a 30-minute appointment to really dig into your career questions. You can visit our career portal to book an appointment with the Career Educator of your choice, or contact your Co-op and Career office to book an appointment.
