Government
funding
The provincial and federal governments offer several wage subsidy programs. You may qualify for some of the following programs.
Small Business Internship Program
Small Business Internship Program
In English
Small- and medium-sized businesses can apply for funding through this Industry Canada program to help pay up to 75% of a post-secondary student's wages during a 12-week internship. Funding supports businesses that wish to hire a student to increase the organization's productivity through e-commerce practices.
How is UVic involved?
UVic's Co-op and Career office is recruiting up to 10 Vancouver Island businesses to hire students through the Small Business Internship Program. Co-op and Career will manage and monitor the agreements with these businesses and help connect these businesses with qualified student interns. This may include posting the positions on the UVic Co-op and Career job board, or on other post-secondary institution job boards.
How can you apply?
Application forms and guides are located on the Small Business Internship Program websites (English and French). Vancouver Island business interested in applying for funding should send application packages to employer@uvic.ca.

Programme de stages dans les petites entreprises
Le Programme de stages dans les petites entreprises permet d’offrir du soutien financier aux petites et moyennes entreprises afin qu’elles puissent embaucher des étudiants de niveau postsecondaire qui les aideront à adopter des technologies de l’information et de la communication pour accroître leur productivité et leur compétitivité.
Le Programme de stages dans les petites entreprises d’Industrie Canada fait appel à la collaboration de petites entreprises canadiennes, d’établissements d’enseignement postsecondaire et d’organisations non gouvernementales qui offrent aux étudiants de niveau postsecondaire la possibilité d’acquérir de l’expérience pratique en travaillant à des projets axés sur le commerce électronique tout en étant encadrés par des entrepreneurs. Les stagiaires pourront ainsi se familiariser avec l’entrepreneuriat et explorer des possibilités de carrière.

Get Youth Working!
Funded through the Canada-BC Labour Market Agreement, Get Youth Working! offers BC employers a $2,800 hiring incentive to hire eligible youth 15 to 19 years of age, as well as a $1,000 training fund for the newly hired youth.

Funding for
students
- BM Lime Connect Canada Scholarship and Internship Program for Students with Disabilities: This program awards a $5,000 scholarship and 2011 paid internship for students with a disability who are in their third year of study (or who have one year remaining) at a four-year university in Canada. Students must be pursuing an undergraduate or graduate degree in computer science, software engineering or other discipline related to the information technology industry.
