Community consultation

Spring 2012 open house.

A renewed and extensive five-step consultation process, culminating in September 2012 with the unanimous approval of Saanich Council of the updated application, has successfully brought the university to the point of breaking ground. UVic is grateful for the invaluable input of community members, local residents and our other partners.

The CARSA project was a catalyst for UVic to strengthen its consultation process for capital projects. Working with consultant firm Golder Associates Ltd. (formerly HB Lanarc), UVic followed the recommended five-phase expanded community consultative process and submitted an updated development variance permit application to the District of Saanich on May 30, 2012.

UVic's new community engagement framework for future capital projects and campus land use planning initiatives was publicly released Feb. 6, 2013 after a seven-month process coordinated by the consultant firm (formerly HB Lanarc). The document sets a new direction for UVic and is the successful result of extensive effort by the university, community representatives, municipal planning department staff, resident association members, the UVic-Community Association Liaison Committee and other stakeholders.

UVic remains mindful of the importance of communicating public information about CARSA, and this website will continue to serve as an important source for that information.
