50th Anniversary Kickoff
50th Anniversary Signature Event
Ceremony | September 4, 2012 | McKinnon Gym
Amidst much cheering, UVic welcomed new students and officially announced the start of the 50th anniversary celebrations on September 4, 2012.
To celebrate the beginning of UVic’s 50th anniversary, the UVic community was invited to experience the energy of the 50th class at the opening Convocation ceremony for new students.
One of the highlights of the event was Craig Kielburger's inspiring keynote address. As the founder of Free the Children and co-founder of Me to We, Craig encouraged the audience to engage in social change and to utilize their university education to better the world. Following Craig’s speech, President Turpin formally announced the beginning of the 50th anniversary. Faculty and staff joined in with the students in a competition to cheer for their Faculty.
We’d like to thank everyone who contributed to the Anniversary Kickoff, from all the participants who cheered throughout, to the faculty and staff, Craig Kielburger, the platform party, the volunteers, Thunder and Student Transition Services.
