Gain perspective and knowledge from a panel of politicians and political commentators including George Abbott, MA '78, former provincial cabinet minister and retired MLA, and Dr. Dennis Pilon, expert on BC politics and formerly at UVic, now at York University. Marking the 50th anniversary of UVic, this panel offers commentary on the upcoming election followed by a Q & A moderated by Dr. James Lawson, UVic Political Science.

Afterwards, there will be a reception with coffee and cookies to facilitate further networking and discussion. All welcome - free to attend!

Lecture/Seminar Catholic Legacies in Victoria 2013-05-28 All Day
Description

Join us for two days of seminars, field trips and archival exhibitions that bring to vivid life the stories of Roman Catholic missionaries during the period of Victoria's colonial settlement. The focus is on two extraordinary legacies: the "bishop's books," a collection of 3500 rare editions from Renaissance-era Europe brought to Victoria during the 1870s and currently housed in the University of Victoria's Special Collections; and the Sisters of St. Ann Archives at the Royal British Columbia Museum.

Lecture/Seminar Pursuing the Wild: The Sichuan Botanical Expedition 2013-05-23 19:00:00
Description

Join the Friends of Finnerty Gardens for an evening of botanical discovery as Sue Milliken and Kelly Dodson of Far Reaches Farm present on their 2012 plant hunting expedition to Sichuan, China. The search for new species of rhododendrons, shrubs and perenials was a fascinating trek that included fellow explorers Steve Hootman of the Rhododendron Species Botanical Garden and Peter Cox, legendary plant hunter.

This presentation will appeal to the casual gardener, the serious plant aficionado and everyone with a love of adventure.
