2017 Volunteer of the Year Peter Fast, BCom '95

Each year, the UVic Alumni Association recognizes one outstanding volunteer with the Alumni Volunteer of the Year Award. This award recognizes the invaluable contributions that volunteers make to the association and the university. Recipients must:

  • Be members in good standing of the UVic Alumni Association;
  • Have performed their service on a voluntary basis and not as part of employment at the university;
  • Have performed volunteer activities as defined by the Alumni Association;
  • Have made an identifiable, exemplary contribution, which benefits the Alumni Association;
  • Have served as a current volunteer for a minimum of three years.

The award will not be given to the same individual more than once or made posthumously. Active members of UVic Alumni Association Board of Directors are not eligible.

2017 Peter Fast
BCom '95
Since 2000, Peter has been behind the success of the Vikes Men’s Soccer Alumni Chapter, helping to raise more than $120,000 for student awards and team operations.
2016 Chris Green
BCom '00
Chris is a dedicated and valued alumni volunteer who has been instrumental in making the Toronto Alumni Branch successful and active. He's a key player in organizing, promoting and staging branch events – many times serving as emcee. 
2015 Jeff McConnell,
MPA ’08
Jeff is a founder and vital member of the Economics Alumni Council. He also helps to organize the council’s annual activities including pub nights and other events that bring students and alumni together.
2014 Fraser Hayes
BCom '11
Fraser began volunteering with the UVic Alumni Association through the Student Ambassadors, from 2007 until 2011.  Since graduation, he volunteers on the Student and Alumni Programs committee and the UVic Young Alumni Council.
2013 Kathleen Barnes
BFA '98
Kathleen was president of the alumni association from 2007 to 2009 and served for eight years on the alumni board. She was a frequent presenter of the traditional greeting from alumni at UVic Convocation ceremonies.
2012 Katherine Wu
BCom '97
An alumni volunteer with the Hong Kong Alumni Branch since 2001, Katherine's set up the branch's first Facebook page, planned and organized branch events, liaised with other alumni organizations and recruited volunteers.
2011 Jennifer Kroeker-Hall
MPA '00
Jennifer has been the driving force behind the Master of Public Administration Alumni Chapter. She was an original member of the volunteer task force that created the MPA Alumni Chapter and she was a board member in its first year, in 2005.
2010 Margie McLellan
VC '45, PNS '46
On the board of the Victoria College Craigdarroch Castle Alumni Association from 1986 to 2008, Margie demonstrated  a keen sense of responsibility and humour in preparation of the VCCCAA newsletter, plus management of the college archives.
2009 Moreno Stefani, BA '84 Moreno  has been key to the success of the Vikes Men’s Soccer Alumni Chapter since 2000, a member of the  committee for the annual Vikes Soccer Alumni Game and Dinner, and a member of the UVic Golf Classic committee.
2008 Peter Forster, BSc '74 Peter became the Beijing alumni branch representative in 2004 and has since become a tireless advocate of UVic in China and an instrumental organizer of many alumni events in Beijing.
2007 Jack Rowe, VC '44 A long-serving member of the association, Jack joined the Victoria College Craigdarroch Castle Alumni Association (VCCCAA) in 1988 and has been a key organizer of reunions and other events.
2006 Megan Howell-Jones,
BEng '01
She joined the Ottawa alumni branch in 2002 and in 2003 became the branch rep. Her duties have included maintaining a branch web site; planning and organizing branch events; and recruiting and managing volunteers.
2005 Shirley Tucker, VC '33 Shirley was an original founder of the VCCCAA, starting with its first board in 1982. She was secretary for the alumni association board and was a member for 10 years, volunteering on countless committees and assisting with UVic projects.
2004 Wendy Gedney, BEd '83 Wendy was the driving for behind many projects that have become central to the alumni services program at UVic. She helped establish the prestigious Alumni Awards for Excellence in Teaching and the Distinguished Alumni Awards.
