Young Alumni Paint Nite

Art of a Good Time

By Ellen Harrison

(Note: New date confirmed. See below.)

You could bring home a beautiful, hand-painted piece of art. The catch? You have to paint it yourself, with a little help.

Paint Nite, organized by the Young Alumni Council, offers all of the step-by-step guidance – and supplies – you need to create your own masterpiece.

It doesn’t hurt that there are appetizers involved as well (and drinks if you want added inspiration).

Paint Nite started in 2012 in the U.S. and has steadily grown in popularity.

Instead of doing a generic painting lesson, the instructor will teach you step by step how to create one specific panting, so it’s okay if you don’t have any experience. And with everything supplied on location, all you have to bring is a fun attitude.

“It’s not your typical social gathering,” says Lauren Scheipers, events specialist for the Paint Nite organization. It’s offers an unusual and fun way to get everyone together. The activity of painting also gets rid of the ‘awkward conversation’ piece of social gatherings.”

Lisa Honeyman, BSc ’12, a member of the UVic Young Alumni Council, has taken part in Paint Nite event before. “It began with the instructor giving step-by-step instructions. She and a helper answered questions, replenished supplies and at the end, they took a group picture and we got to take our pictures home.”

This is a great opportunity to meet some fellow alumni, make connections, and have something to show for it at the end of the night.
